What Our Soil Assessment Told Us
Before a single tree goes into the ground, we needed to understand exactly what we're working with. Our soil assessment across the five-acre site confirmed what the land itself already told us: years of neglect have left the soil compacted, low in organic matter, and structurally poor in several sections, particularly where flooding is worst.
Why this shapes everything ahead
These results directly inform Phase 1 backfilling and levelling work, and they'll shape exactly where the Miyawaki forest, the bamboo corridor, and the first food forest layers are planted. Soil health is the first of Uhai's six pillars for a reason — no-till methods, mulching, and composting only work if we start with an accurate picture of where the soil actually stands today.
The good news: degraded soil is not dead soil. With the right inputs — organic matter, mycorrhizal support from mushroom cultivation, and time — this land can rebuild the living foundation it needs.
