Welcome to Uhai: Why We're Building in the Open
Uhai Forest Trust is five acres of degraded land beside a river in Kamulu, East Nairobi, that we're transforming into a living food forest. This blog exists to document that transformation honestly, phase by phase, starting from bare, cracked, waterlogged ground.
Why show the land as it is
Most restoration stories are told after the fact, once the trees are tall and the photos are flattering. We're doing the opposite: publishing updates as they happen, including the unglamorous early work of backfilling and levelling that has to happen before anything can be planted.
We believe the degradation is part of the story, not something to hide. Founding partners who join Uhai now — corporate, community, or individual — are joining at the earliest, rawest point, and will be able to see, in public, exactly how a piece of neglected land becomes a thriving ecosystem.
Just as the human body heals when given what it needs, the earth heals when we give it what it needs. This blog is where we'll show that happening, one update at a time.
